The Coquitlam Cheetahs Track and Field Club has its origins dating back to the 1960s. In 1989, Percy Perry became Head Coach of the club, at which time the club also moved to its new location at The Coquitlam Town Centre. Tara Self, daughter of Percy Perry and two-time Olympian, assumed head coaching duties for the club in 2005. During the past few years the club has experienced significant success in attracting new athletes, and in 2016, the club membership was more than 175 athletes.

Junior Development Program: Ages 9-13

The Junior Development Program is commonly referred to as JD’s. Athletes are encouraged to try a variety of running, jumping and throwing events. Training for the JD's begins in April and continues until the end of July at Percy Perry Stadium. During this period practices are held Monday to Thursday. Track competition meets are usually held on Saturday and Sunday. Athletes can participate in as many meets as they wish, and need not participate in events on all days of a meet – tailor your child’s schedule as you wish. Cross Country practices and competitions take place in September and October.

Track and Field Program: Ages 14-25

Our program is coordinated and designed by two time Olympian Tara Self. This is a high performance program designed to produce provincial, national and international athletes.  Athletes train from September to March and compete from March to July. We accept all athletes with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.  Our athletes include the Canadian male champion in the 400m and the fastest female high school athlete in the 200m and 400m in Canadian history.
